Opioid Overdose Prevention Training

The opioid crisis, particularly the rise in fentanyl-related overdoses, continues to be a serious concern in Clark County, Nevada. With fentanyl being one of the leading causes of overdose deaths in the area, it’s essential that communities, organizations, and first responders are equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to prevent and respond to these life-threatening situations. The Foundation for Recovery’s Opioid Overdose Prevention course is designed to provide individuals with the training they need to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and take immediate action to save lives.

During the event, Hopelink staff members learned critical skills, including how to administer Narcan (naloxone), a life-saving medication that can reverse opioid overdoses. The training is vital for anyone who may encounter individuals at risk of overdose, as it empowers participants to act quickly in an emergency.

Free Narcan Resources in Las Vegas

A vital part of this initiative is the availability of free Narcan in Las Vegas. The Foundation for Recovery, in partnership with the Southern Nevada Health District, is working hard to ensure that Narcan is accessible to those who need it most. These efforts are even more crucial considering the rising presence of fentanyl in Clark County, which has made opioid overdoses even more dangerous.

If you or your organization need free Narcan or have any questions about how to obtain it, reach out to the Foundation for Recovery or Mark Eting for assistance. The Foundation for Recovery works closely with local health authorities to distribute these life-saving resources in bulk, ensuring that more individuals can be trained and equipped to prevent an overdose tragedy.

Tackling the Fentanyl Crisis in Clark County

The issue of fentanyl overdoses in Clark County is a real and growing problem. Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid that is often mixed with other substances, is far more potent than heroin or morphine, making it a leading cause of fatal overdoses. The community has rallied to respond to this crisis, with organizations like the Foundation for Recovery (click link to donate to Foundation for Recovery) and Hopelink stepping up to educate and equip individuals with the tools needed to save lives.

A significant part of this effort involves education and raising awareness in the community. Through events like this overdose prevention training, more people are becoming informed about the dangers of opioids and how to respond to an overdose. The proactive involvement of organizations like Hopelink ensures that communities are well-prepared to combat this growing epidemic.

A Thank You to Community Leaders

A huge thank you goes out to Robert Schomer, Foundation for Recovery’s Overdose Prevention Specialist, and Head of the Recovery Friendly Workplace Initiative (RFWI) created by Governor Lombardo’s office, for their dedication to raising awareness and implementing solutions to the recovery friendly workplace initiative. Robert’s leadership in coordinating these community efforts has been invaluable in spreading critical knowledge on overdose prevention and harm reduction.

Additionally, Mark Eting, a volunteer of the Foundation for Recovery, has been instrumental in providing these life-saving resources to organizations and individuals in Southern Nevada. His work, alongside Robert and the rest of the team at the Foundation, continues to make a significant impact on the local community. Mark’s goal this year in 2025 is to train 5000+ people in the business community alone not to mention individual people outside of the workforce!

Robert and Mark Lee Eting were recently featured on the news during an Overdose Prevention Training event. Their efforts to highlight the importance of this training were covered in an article in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, underscoring the importance of the training and the life-saving impact it can have on the community.
